Not counting food I get off of my meal plan, I spend about the same. I eat out a couple times a week, maybe see a movie or something, and get some basic groceries. Plus some on the weekend to party, but that's about $5 tops. Gotta love house parties.

in the beginning of the school last year, i was spending about $30 per week, but that all changed once i noticed that i HAD to stop asking my mom for money. So then i got it down to about $10 per week. some weeks i did spend about $15, but atleast im happy i got it down.

How the heck did are you guys managing to spend so little!?

i spent a lot first semester and then much less second semester. i was spending $50-$100 a week first semester...i averaged about $30 a week second semester.

My school and the area around my school gave us discounts on many of the things we spent on. All i had to do was show my id and the discount was on.

To Tien:
Well, what are you spending money on? Most of my meals came from my meal plan or sandwiches, so I kept food money down low. I don't buy new clothes much, and it's usually during the summer. Now that I'll have a car I'll have to pay for gas, but I won't be using it much so I'll be alright. I don't go to bars, I go to house parties that cost $3 for a cup.

I really try to go for 15, if I can, yeah I knows it's low, but I also have the meal plan. Usually I use it for random cheap steaks and occasional movies, etc.

I'm a big cheaparse, and excluding non-recurring costs (without factoring depreciation), I would spend around 15-20 dollars most weeks.

i get to spend 300 bucks a month on my CC for personal things ilke going out to eat/clothes/hanging out. Think I should get a job ?

Typical weekly budget:

$8 - pack of cigarettes
$20 - eating out

For a grand total of around $30 per week. In NYC, of all places.

^ one pack a week? lolol do you smoke for show? i'd quit those cancer sticks if i was you.

it really depends on how many days you like to go out. go out 1 night a week is easy way to save money. food money adds up the easiest. ahhhh well.

300-400$ a month is regular for a college student living away from home

a thousand per month

For show? No. Not all of us are pack a day, weak-willed ****s, like you may be. 1-2 before/after classes and whenever I'm stressed is enough for me.

firewalker, i like the way you're talking...
i'm going to school in New York, and i'm so nervous about money...
do you do to NYU?

Do I go to NYU, you mean? Yes, I do.

First semester of freshman year I spent a ridiculous amount of money. This year I need to try and actually budget my money so I am not always poor. If you can stay on meal plan than do it, because food is really expensive. If you drink on the weekends then alcohol can be up to 80 bucks a month. Thats where all my money goes.

Man, I cannot see myself spending 15-20 bucks a week. I try to keep my spending at 0 as much as I can, but it prolly ends up being 5-10/week. I never eat out. Beer at my college is usually free at parties :). Sometimes I might have to spend like 5 bucks on a late night burrito or something. But ehh, i try to keep my spending low. I might pay to see a movie every now and then but sometimes the university has free showings.

I'm hoping to average around $10 a week... I know I'll probably go over, but I really don't want to need to work much.

is this even possible?

No meal plan, I usually spend about 50-60 per week.
