College Students Panel at HS

I’m heading to my old high school to do a Q&A session with high school seniors. I had the passing thought of what would you say to your HS senior self or your high school friends based off your college experiences.

I’d tell myself you’re going to feel uncomfortable talking to strangers, but eventually you’ll find people who would call you their friend.

I would tell myself that professors are nice. Sure, there are good ones and bad ones, but my professors were so much nicer than I had expected them to be. Some were ten times nicer than my high school teachers.

So many people told me that professors were mean and wouldn’t “spoon feed” information and that you would have to practically harass them to get help. I even had a high school teacher my senior year that gave ambiguous assignments and refused to clarify them because "that’s how it would be in college."I have yet to be assigned an ambiguous essay or project or had a prof decline to make himself more clear. Professors want students to succeed as much as my high school teachers did. Sure, they won’t call my parents if I’m failing, but if I want help, they want to help me.

I would tell myself that deapota rarely having to study in high school I had to study in college. My first semester I avoided the library like it was a plague and I was stressed BC of it. Second semester and my third I lived there and felt significantly better and I would also say that time management is absolute key.
