College suggestions for undergraduate mechanical engg?

Hi, i am an international student applying for fall 2017 for mechanical engineering.
I just want a rough list for the universities i should apply to (dream, reach, safe), please mention some that give any sort of aid like on campus job or grants to international students.

The following are a few details regarding my profile-

  1. Sat 2100 - math 780 CR -620 W - 700
  2. School gpa - isnt based like USA gpa system but i would say i am top 10% student, with 87% in 10th grade, 90+ in both 11th and 12th grade.
  3. Ap - no ap courses available in school but self prepared and got 5 on 2 ap exams.
  4. Extras - been robotics team leader in school, won regional championship, represented school in nationals twice
play basketball (hobby never tried for team)
was part of chess and robotics club
won gold medal on sports day for relay race
been part of community service for a very long time
and a couple other activities that I cant remember right now.
  5. commonapp essay - Pretty good
  6. recommendations- Pretty good

A few universities that i am looking forward to-

  1. Stanford ( just taking a chance lol)
  2. Georgia Tech ( hope i make it here)
  3. Purdue
  4. UIUC
  5. UMich
  6. Ohio state

Among these i would love your recommendations, also I would appreciate it if you would give me an idea regarding my profile, how is it compared to other international applicants?
Any help highly appreciated
Thanks

bump!??

Cost constraints?

A few comments…
–Find out any constraints your family has (ex. financial, anything else?)
–Consider what you want or don’t want in your college experience other than it having a solid engineering schools (ex. size, location, sports, Greek Life?)
–Try using the supermatch function to the left
–Get your hands on some good college guide books (ex. Fiske, Princeton Review) and start reading.

yea sure but any experienced human is much better than a book or a internet search.
I dont think any financial constraints, but any financial aid would be good.
I have no problem with size and ratios and all, i do however prefer a division 1 basketball team.

And something, how does my application to other internationals? Just an idea? Thanks for your help and reply bud.

Not particularly but i think my max budget would be around 50k$ a year.

I’d say Michigan and GTech are reaches (but still worth applying to), but you have a decent shot at UIUC, OSU and Purdue. Applying to Stanford is a throw-away, honestly, but you know that already.

Most public uni’s don’t have a lot of money for international students, so you might be better off applying to some privates which may (or may not) have funding. Some good private eng schools that are a match for you are RPI, WPI, Lehigh, Case Western, Union College.

Rice and Duke will be a reaches for you but usually generous with aid.

Other public schools with good engineering, and more affordable than privates without aid, would be Texas A&M, Wisconsin-Madison, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Arizona State.

Thanks for the reply, further comments welcomed

I would say 0 chance at all at Stanford. Georgia tech almost 0 chance as well, as the school’s international acceptance rates are sub 10 percent. UMich is also a super reach. Uiuc purdue are decent schools. I’d recommend going pre-eng at uwash or maybe some lower uc school.

0 chance at georgia?!! Lol u wrecked me, is my application so bad ? :frowning:

Virginia Tech, Penn State and Villanova.

Reaches for anyone, yes. No merit aid with OP’s stats, need-based also would be difficult.

So i am also applying to MSU and penn state, do i have a decent shot there?

You have a decent chance at getting into Penn State.

Look at University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign. They take a lot of international students. I’m assuming you are able to pay full cost of attendance.

Also look at Virginia Tech, Northeastern, Boston University, and the University of California system. Lots of internationals and better chances of getting accepted at these schools.

Already applied to UIUC

U Alabama

You won’t get any aid from UIUC - they’re having major budget issues (like the UCs)

Well i did get into Purdue
