I'd like a college that:
-Is in, or is at least decently close to Michigan (where I live).
-Is in a "happening" area.
-Is know for a good music program, but is not centered soley around music. (As of right now I think I'm only minoring in it, but it's very important to me and I could always change my mind. I'm undecided on a major, so the more possiblilty and flexibility the better.)

If you have any suggestions that are a little farther away the you feel very strongly about, I'm open to those too... but otherwise please try to think of my best options for the above stipulations.

(Anything incredibly competitive is probably not all that realistic, so though I'd still like to hear those suggestions I definately don't mind hearing things that may seem more "mediocre" as well.)

I'll assume you're aware of UMich, AA, and also Wayne State University in Detroit. Some other suggestions from the book "Schools that Rock" (Rolling Stone College Guide): : Rolling Stone

Some near Michigan:

DePaul University, Chicago

Case Western Reserve, Cleveland

Ohio State, Columbus

Uof Cincinnati

Indiana University, Indianapolis

Drake University, Des Moines
UW-Milwaukee
UW-Madison
UMinn-Twin Cities

Further away and "happenin'" and not uberselective:

Oberlin has the music, in fact a great music program. As far as "happening"??? But I'd take the great school and great music program, two out of three ain't bad.

Portland is a really nice city with a super-hip/eccentric vibe (ex: a popular local delicacy is the NyQuil Donut)...the population is the most diverse in terms of style, tastes, etc. of any city not named New York...I'd imagine there's a great music scene, and because it's not HUGE like New York or Chicago you could still get a bit of that small-town feel.
