@moooop Having significant merit scholarships doesn’t equal low tuition.
Well, if you do the math, you can see that the scholarships a 3.9 GPA & a 33 ACT will get you at these schools will usually result in tuition well below $14k per year.
Here’s Alabama, where the OP would pay $0.00 tuition: http://scholarships.ua.edu/types/out-of-state.php
Here’s Mississippi, where the OP would pay $0.00 tuition: http://finaid.olemiss.edu/scholarships/#8
@ColdinMinny --I may have missed something, but how can you tell how much the OP would be paying at RH and Trinity? Did she list her EFC? Or are you basing that on merit aid award.
As far as Trinity being ranked #2 in the state of Texas…do you have a link to that rank? I’ve heard fantastic things about Trinity for those wanting a smaller school experience, but ranked #2? This is what is on USNWR https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/trinity-university-texas-3647
They offer an Engineering Science degree and I’m not familiar with that. I would really want to do the research to make sure that degree holds up against a true ChemE or Mech E, etc. in the job market.
Looks like Texas Tech would be $0.00 tuition, too (note scholarship recipients get charged the in-state rate for tuition, then get a scholarship on top of that): https://www.depts.ttu.edu/scholarships/incFreshman.php
The OP would almost certainly get the Beadle scholarship ($14,500 per yr.) at Nebraska, bringing his tuition tab down to about $6000 per year. http://financialaid.unl.edu/geographical_need-base.shtml
Carachel2: I was going on likely merit aid comparing RH and TU. TU is absolutely transparent, they will publish their merit aid and you can 100% count on those figures. RH is based on past experience of what they typically offer for those grades/scores.
Rice is #1 in Texas in terms of selectivity and every other measure I am aware of. TU is second to my knowledge, but if you have some other school in mind, let me know.
As far as the comparison of different UG Engineering degrees, that falls outside my area of knowledge. I can tell you the Engineering students at TU work very hard, have an awesome facility, and do very well with placement.
I feel we are getting astray from the OP’s focus…She will have wonderful options, and I wanted her to be aware of Trinity as we are also from Minnesota and my S shared almost identical stats and had the same interest in shooting sports which are embraced at Trinity.
