Next year I plan to take four AP courses: US Government, AP Calculus AB, AP English Language, and AP Spanish V (I believe V is considered AP).

I also plan to enroll in two college courses at Ohio State as a part of my schedule

I will likely be a National Merit Scholar according to counselors at my school.

I would also like to add that I may attend Miami University's Junior Scholar program this summer, where I would earn 6-8 credit hours.

How would my chances be at schools like Northwestern, University of Michigan, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Washington University in St. Louis, Virginia, Duke, or Miami University be?

Could I get merit-based aid from any of the above schools?

Any suggestions for other schools?

you sound like me- worried and over-prepared. i'm guessing 4.11 is weighted? you have alot of ECs but leadership and originality is most important to colleges (FOUND SOMETHING!) you'll be fine. if you want a REALLY good shot apply ED (early decision) to wherever you want to go. good luck. also, SATs are really important so get prepared and do well in them but dont stress or you'll do badly. hope you do well.

Any other opinions, please?

Bump, anyone else?

Anyone, please?

hey, it's nice to see anouther Ohioan (looks like were from about the same area). Agree with 2nd poster

If your SAT comes off as strong as your PSAT, you will be a strong candidate at Vanderbilt. Your challenging schedule will be a big plus. Lots of Ohio kids at Vandy - S's roommate freshman year was from Columbus and his school sent the second highest number of kids after Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville.

As far as your current STATS are concerned:

Northwestern- a possible reach
University of Michigan- depending on when you apply. If you apply really early, then your chances are good. If you apply like right before the deadline, your chances are low. But on stats a lone, Michigan may be a 50/50 to a possible reach. In addition, geography plays a big part with Michigan.

Vanderbilt- foundation to 50/50
Wake Forest- foundation to 50/50
North Carolina- geography may prevent you from getting in. otherwise, it is a foundation on stats alone.

Washington University in St. Louis- a 50/50
Virginia- geography is important with VA as well. On stats alone, 50/50
Duke- a possible reach
Miami University- foundation

Duke would be a great choice but might want to look at some other schools such as Colgate, Holy Cross, or Bucknell as they are easier to get into. Might get merit aid at Holy Cross or Bucknell.

There are a few outliers. It depends on whether your GPA is weighted. If you are around top 10% ish most of these schools are very within reason. Miami is a safety, Michigan is almost a lock early in the process. I think ED Northwestern is very reasonable. The rest are match/ reaches (a very good list) except for Duke, which is a reach. You might consider adding a couple more reaches such as a couple Ivies if your SAT is high.

It is hard to tell by meerely looking at the information you have given out. What is your unweighed GPA? We really need to see your SAT/ACT scores to give you better feedback.

Assuming your unweighed GPA is over 3.7 and your SAT/ACT hits the 2100/32 mark, and you apply by mid October, I agree with Slipper...Michigan would be a like safe match acceptance. Miami is a safety. UVA and UNC are very tough on out-of-staters, so they would be reaches. Duke is a reach and Northwestern and Washington U. would be match/reach. Wake and Vanderbilt would be matches.

topsyturvy6234 - Since I'm from CA.. the only school on your list that i know anything about in detail is Northwestern. you asked about possible merit aid, just to let you know Northwestern only has Need Based Aid, it does not give out merit aid. On whether you can get accepted or not, im sure you have a reasonable chance.

Thanks for the info...any other opinions?
