BTW my wife suggested MHC for the very reasons stated above. This student was opposed to it. More than our daughter is, who will visit.

Hey, if she liked MHC, I will be the first to tell you. I’ll also tell you if she doesn’t.

Smith is too much of a reach. I think, from what our son, sister, and niece all said, the women of Smith have a fie dating scene on campus and a few are no longer women. I’m not opposed to transgendered individuals at all, but it confuses me a bit. If it’s a women’s college, shouldn’t it be for women only?

Smith is indeed very different from MHC in terms of “fit”.

Congratulations to your friend’s daughter - I understand if you can’t check the FA package but do ask whether there are loans in that package and for how much (perhaps under the guise of worry for your daughter’s costs?). Some universities include PLUS loans and say it’s a full ride… it’s a rip off/a lie, but it happens and some parents fall for it. :s Your daughter’s friend really would have better choices if it were a “fake full ride”. I’m just being cautious about it due to seeing such situations before.
I agree that if it’s a real full ride, it sounds like a great choice. :)

Really? People have told you you should “force” your D to attend a particular college that happens to be all women?

It seems that you have an animus against women’s colleges. Maybe people are suggesting them because they are, for some students, great places. Of course, they are not for everyone. No college is.

Is it Capital University in Ohio or Capitol College in Maryland?

I was curious as I’m not familiar with either, but in looking at diversity I found the statistics interesting. At CU the percent of white students is 78% (10% AA) and the faculty is 88% white. At CC there’s 35% AA students which sounds great, but 0% AA for the faculty. Personally, I would find this more disturbing than what policies colleges had years ago. What they are doing now matters more to me.

Just mentioning this for anyone else reading this thread later on as it sounds as though she and her family have already decided on CU or CC.

As an edit to above, I just went onto Capitol College’s website, and one of the faculty photos is of an adjunct professor who is an AA woman. I can’t mention the site I got the 0% info from, but clearly it’s wrong.
