Hey! So my college offered me an all expenses paid summer program on campus. They were super vague and have avoided answering my questions for the last couple of months, but I accepted anyway since it was free. It actually starts July 5th and they finally sent out the information. Basically, I’m asking for advice as to whether I should really follow through and go or not.
Some back ground on me so far: I just finished AP Calc BC and AP Physics C, I did extremely well on the ACT, and I have some other AP’s but they probably aren’t very relevant to the summer program since it’s a STEM school. I’m also a first generation college student (which I think is a major part as to they chose me for this program). However, I do well in school and am very involved in many other outside clubs and projects.
So this program is free. The schedule includes a math class each day (pre-calc or calc 1, but I’m supposed to be going into calc 3 or differential eqs.), alternating chem and physics classes, a comp. programming class, and then one or two ‘fun activities’ like tug of war or arts and crafts. There are also a few building projects throughout the program. Also, it’s a 4 week program.
I just don’t want to waste my time. I already have a higher ap level in physics and math than what they are offering me and a pretty solid basis in chem. The only new class in Comp. programming. I do think that it would be good for me socially, but is that enough to make it worth it? It’s in Chicago and I’m from a small town so it’s definitely a different environment. I have volunteer work that I value a lot that I will have to give up in July to go and of course all of my high school friends that I may never see again.
If it was you what would you do and why? Any opinions appreciated!
