Has anyone attended any of these? What courses did you take and what were they like? What was your overall (in and out of class) experience like? Would you recommend the program? I was originally looking at Harvard because I've heard good things about it from students that have attended in the past. Brown was another possibility, and I just recieved a postcard from University of Chicago and it sounds like their program is similar.

Id love information on this too!

I would definitely recommend summer@brown. I took a three-week course there this past summer and it was an amazing opportunity. I made friends that I’m still very close with despite the distance between us and it gave me a chance to explore a beautiful school. Plus, I received a full scholarship so the only thing I had to pay for was my plane ticket.
I don’t know much about the other programs, but I will say that as a proud Chicagoan, UChicago is in a really nice neighborhood that has changed a lot in recent years.
Whatever you choose, I would HIGHLY suggest doing one of these summer programs because not only do they look great on college apps, but they are also a lot of fun.

Hope this helped a bit!

(This should be moved to the Summer Programs thread.)

A dissenting opinion: everything I’ve heard about these programs is that they are unselective, overpriced, not very rigorous and I’ve heard from several admissions officers that they confer no advantage to college admissions, since they accept basically everybody that applies. I wouldn’t recommend it. You’ll only be demonstrating your ability to pay 5000$ for 1 summer course.

I’ve heard the same as math+sci=asian, but since I have not attended these programs, I don’t have much to say about them. I’m sure they’re a great experience and show that you spent your summers doing something productive (this part will probably help in admissions - but you could find other ways to do something meaningful over the summer), but will not offer an advantage at a specific college if that’s what you’re looking for.

I heard Summer @ Brown was great, plus it’s easy to sneak out and party your ass off there. Just what I heard though.

But if you want pure academic knowledge/research, go for internships or research opportunities if that’s your jawn.

EDIT 2: Why would you revive a seven year old thread?

A 7 year old thread gets revived, then the thread gets revived again 8 months later… seems legit to me.

And to me too.
