I am currently a senior in high school and I don't really have a major in mind.
I heard colleges prefer that the applicant select a major so I have put chemistry as my major. However, I also have engineering in mind. So I have some questions about this:

If I get into a college's science school and decide to do engineering, do I need to reapply for the college's engineering school?

And are engineering schools typically harder to get into compared to science schools?

3.And if I do reapply for the engineering school and get rejected, can I still continue my chemistry major at that college?

Because of the strict prereqs in engineering, it is much harder to switch into engineering than out of it. So if you’re seriously considering engineering, start there. Then in many schools, you can switch to chemistry if you wish.

By the way, it’s not true that most schools want applicants to select a major. Many, particularly smaller schools, actually prefer undecided applicants (except for specific majors like engineering).

Thanks! I was thinking about putting engineering as my major but I am applying to a lot of highly selective colleges(Vanderbilt, UofC berkeley,LA, WashU) and I heard getting into those colleges with an engineering major is more difficult than getting in with a science major. So that why I didn’t choose engineering as my major.
