I am the class of 2012 and i am soon heading off the college. As ofnow, I have a macbook pro and iphone. What else will I need....I know i need a protector for my comp and phone but what else???? nook?(do you know anyone who doesnt buy books anymore, but kindle/nooks instead?) ipad? what is best...ipad or nook? what is the best way to take notes in class?

You don’t need anything else than a pad of paper, a pen, and a bag.

It depends a lot on your preferred method of taking notes, as well as what classes you’re taking. I know a few students who use a tablet/kindle/iPad to take notes, but they’re mostly people who aren’t taking a high volume of notes, or who are taking notes on a book. Also, remember that many textbooks still aren’t available for ereaders.

I’d suggest that you just stick with your computer and a notebook for the first semester, then use your experiences to make a more informed decision.

You shouldn’t need anything other than your Macbook and your iPhone. Maybe you’ll need a graphing calculator is you’re a STEM major.

Tablets, e-readers, and net/ultrabooks are nice but they are completely optional. Most students still use textbooks. You may consider one of these devices if you have classes which requires you to print many articles or lecture slides.

You definitely don’t need an iPad/nook etc. – they are fun, but definitely not necessary for college. I agree with getting a scientific calculator if you are taking calculus/science courses and I would also suggest buying an inexpensive printer so you don’t have to run to the library (and pay their fee) every time you need to print out a paper. And for a few dollars, I’d get a laptop lock.

Do not buy a calculator until your professor tells you to, and then buy the one he or she recommends. It will make your life much easier. The calculator on your iphone (or even google) will hold you over until then.
