I have several of these - be warned, though, they are definitely not slick, professional videos. It's just the man with his camcorder on an admissions tour. However, they do ask good questions and if you can't make it to campus it can help you get a feel for the campus. After you've watched a few of these, you can figure out which campuses they liked, were neutral about, or were surprised by.

Someday I'd like to meet the guy from Jersey who does these.

With some schools, you can simply request a DVD/CD-ROM/VHS of their official admissions video. I've actually been putting together a list of schools that offer these materials for a while, and was thinking of asking people here on CC for additions. Here's what I have so far:

DVDs

Rhodes College (loans)

Swarthmore College

University of Hartford

University of Pittsburgh

CD-ROMs

Albion College

Bemidji State University

Case Western Reserve University

Edinboro University of Pennsylvania

Haverford College

Kent State University

National University of Ireland-Maynooth

North Carolina State University

Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee

Old Dominion University

Radford University

Simmons College

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

Stirling University (Scotland)

Sweet Briar College

United States Naval Academy

University of Massachusetts-Amherst

University of Massachusetts-Boston

University of Southern California

University of Southern Florida

University of Texas-San Antonio

VHS

Green Mountain College

Rhodes College (loans)

There are so, so many more than that, but I got sidetracked with the list. I guess my point is, just try contacting admissions first. Let them know you can't visit the school, and would like to know if they have any DVDs/CD-ROMs/cassettes they can send you to help you "see" the campus for yourself.

www.videc.com makes videos for the colleges. If you ask for a video directly from the school, that is what they send you. The ones I have seen were mainly students saying generic nice things about the college. If you order a video, they will inform the college that you did. This is a good thing for the colleges that care about the level of interest in the college that you have shown.
