College Tours - Spring Break 2022 and the Pandemic

We are planning for a spring break college visit trip for our child. The whole world seems to have changed in just the last bit with the Omicron covid variant.

Assuming that colleges aren’t doing physical tours this coming spring, we still think that it’s important that our D sees the campuses and the surroundings of schools on her list. The bulk of this trip (late March-early April 2022) will be in NY, PA, and DC and we have others planned in the near future for California and the mid-west.

I am not asking anyone to prognosticate, but, assuming things get no worse than the last two years, do you think we will be able to walk the physical campuses even if there are no formal tours? If we can’t do that, there’s no point in going; however, if we can, even without tours, I still think it makes sense to go as long as we can see the campus and its neighborhood. Other stuff, if necessary, we can deal with virtually.

Stated another way, do you think there might be restrictions keeping us off campuses?

All thoughts welcome. Thanks!

Depends on the school. Some u need to go through gates and be let in. This happened to us at awake Forest, High Point and Richmond. They said drive. But don’t get out of the car.

Others are open campuses. They may not have yours but there is nothing to stop you from walking. This was UGA, W&L and Emory for us. Just follow their mask rules.

We did 11 schools in 4 days. I preferred it better than the info session / tour bcuz the info sessions get long and repetitive.

DD and I toured this last Spring. Other than Duke, we could do self-guided tours. Even if the campus tours are canceled, you may be able to meet with departments. We were able to meet with ROTC detachments at schools that were “closed” for tours.
