College Town

Hi everyone I am going to look at Alabama on November 1st and 2nd now being from New York I don’t really know any places to check out in Tuscaloosa so if any current students or parents can recommend some places that would be great! ROll TIDE

My DD is accepted for next fall. We have made two trips to T-town so far. If you or your parents have a car, drive around the campus and perimeter roads - it will give you a good idea of the layout for walking around. Check out the strip and drive into downtown T-town to see some of the off campus restaurants. The drive from the interstate will take you past a shopping center and several strip malls - yo can see that many of the stores you might like up north are also in T-town. For dinner, you definitely need to go to Dreamland BBQ. If you like football, also stop by the Bear Bryant Museum on campus!

We haven’t had time for a lot of sightseeing - I’m sure someone else can post of other things to do. Enjoy your visit!

There are museums on campus, the Bryant Denny museum is a good sports one. Look on the web site. Go to Dreamland or Full Moon BBQ. The Waysider is a local restaurant with 16 tables, an institution in the area. The Cypress Inn is good too. Fried green tomatoes and fried pickles are unique to a Northerner like me. Drive down the strip and look in the little shops. There is a mall called Midtown shops with nicer stores like Chicos, Barnes and Noble, etc. have fun!

Glad to hear you’re visiting in person. There are many many many threads on this UA forum outlining many many many things to do (and eat!) while visiting. Poke around and you will find many great suggestions. Think journey, not destination, Grasshopper.

Okay, now I see that you have not visited. You expressed some apprehension about choosing The Univerity of Alabama as your college choice (in your other thread), I will venture to say that all that indecisiveness will change after your visit.

I hope that you have set up your tours and made all the arrangements for your visit already.
I am also assuming that you are planning to be a member of the Honors Colllege and have previously contacted Allison to make those tour arrangements.

Full Moon BBQ is brand new (rebuilt after the tornado) and is fun and conveniently located to shopping. The food is really delicious…try some collard greens and the ribs!! Oh, don’t forget the sweet tea…

Yes, please make sure you’ve arranged a tour through the Honors College if you’re planning, or even just considering, being a member. It will knock your socks off.

And please let us know how your visit goes. :)

Let us know if you need anytime.

Since you like sports, you should visit the Paul Bear Bryant museum. When you go it, watch the movie first.
