Hello all,
I am a second year student at a community college. My graduation is in five weeks. Here’s the thing, I am passing all of my classes except for business calculus. This has been the most difficult class that I have taken. Due to my grade being low, my instructor has used an administrative withdrawal. Pretty much, I’ve been taken out of the class, rather than have an F on my transcript.
I had planned on attending University in the fall, and changing my major where calculus was listed as “Calculus or elective”, instead of the degree plan just listing calculus as a requirement. What I want to know is, if I do not graduate in May, can I still apply to university for the fall, and apply whatever classes I have taken, even though I did not graduate community college?
Thanks.
Can you retake the Calculus class over the Summer or you believe there is no hope of you passing that class? The summer session is more accelerated, but you have covered most of the material already so it might be a lot easier this time around, plus you will only be doing one class. Did you avail yourself to any on-campus tutoring for the Business Calculus course? Would a private tutor help (if you can afford it)? It seems a bit severe for you to change your major due to the problem with a single course.
I cannot answer your specific question about transferring without an AA degree. Why not call up a number of your targeted 4-year schools and ask them directly?
Thanks for the response.
I believe there is no hope of passing this class. I just barely passed college algebra the previous semester(My score was a 70). Tutoring does not help, I just cannot retain anything related to algebra. For me, whenever I get tutoring I drift off when being shown how to do a problem. This only happens when it comes to math. So, I started teaching myself when I took college algebra. It worked in a way.
The thing with calculus, it was so fast paced, and sooo many steps to one problem, my brain just could not process it. When it came to test day, I would literally go blank. I am doing well in my two accounting classes and statistics class. But I just cannot grasp calculus. I’m afraid If I can’t transfer to university, I am going to be out of options. I just don’t know what to do.
It all came down to one class. Two years pretty much down the drain.
Do not give up just yet. I found out in high school that the secret to mastering Math is to practice, practice, practice! The more math problems you do, the more you familiarize yourself with the process and techniques involve in solving math problems. Are you an Accounting or Business Major? Are all Accounting/Business Program/Majors require to do Business Calculus? Maybe there are programs out there that do not require Business Calculus to get a 4-year Accounting/Business degree.
