College transfer - too personal?

Is it a good idea to write a very personal essay? (The question is along the lines up write a personal statement about personal circumstances and mine is really personal - but I think it would help my case).

Without knowing exactly what you mean, it’s impossible to answer.

But keep repeating the mantra: “Give them a reason to say yes.” The essay isn’t a counseling session. It’s an opportunity for you illustrate that you will be a good fit for you, and you for them. And you only have 650 words to do that.

Well I don’t want to get into every specific but one of the things is my dad died while I was i was attending one of the colleges and my GPA from there is a 2.25 but my second college I have drastically improved.

I’m so sorry.

But don’t make it about dad. Make it about you. What did you learn, how did you grow?

So it’s not an excuse or an explanation, but the beginning of a period of growth.

But know that far too many other kids have a sadly similar story to tell.
