Hello, guys! I did 2 years of college work at a foreign university (Philippines) but want to disregard them and go to a community college before finally transfering to a UC. Is this actually possible? Help! I just want to take them all over again coz I want American education. :)

It’s possible, yes. But UCs aren’t going to disregard your previous academic history. I know that they do some sort of check for students and will know if you took any coursework in any US institution but I don’t know how it works for foreign institutions. Hopefully you left your previous school in good standing?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I did leave my previous foreign school in good standing. (Although some of my grades weren’t that good and I took some classes twice.) So, would you recommend that I don’t take the classes that I already took or start from scratch? If they only check previous US schools then I’d be fine, but what if they also check foreign ones? XD

Never ever lie on your app… include the foreign school and all the classes/grades from it.

If you’ve already taken a class, and are reasonably sure you’ll get credit for it, I wouldn’t bother retaking it… well, unless it’s to replace a bad grade or you didn’t understand it. But it’s usually better to go learn new things, instead of repeating the same stuff again and again. Retaking classes also means paying more tuition, and even at a CC that can be expensive for OoS.

Yes, your foreign university work must be included on your application. Not disclosing part of your academic record can result in cancelation of your application. I recommend finding a CC or UC counselor that is familiar with international records to evaluate your work and help you make an education plan to fulfill remaining transfer credit. It would be pointless to repeat coursework you already have passed and the repeat courses will just be excluded from your application.

I spent a year in a foreign university before immigrating to US…I had a one year gap in my education, and yesterday I received a mail from UCs to explain the gap, and which university I went, the transcript etc.
I told them I could not ask for the transcript from the officials, because of the fear that they might stop me from emigrating(I come from mid-east)…so although I passed some classes in my country for only 2 semesters, I couldn’t transfer those courses to US, so I started out fresh…I hope they don’t reject my application!!! any advice please?!
