hey guys, i am in the final year of my studies and really plan to go to the states to get my bachelor's. however, i will not be able to go over straight away after i graduate and may only be able to start my studies 2 years later.

question is, will the colleges/universities be willing to reserve a place for me, if say...i apply straight after i graduate? or should i apply at a later time? i might head to the US 2011/2012 so is it advisable to apply now or later (2010?).

Most universities will defer your enrollment for 1 year if you have a good reason (e.g. you need to serve your military term or want/need to work for a year first). I don’t know if colleges grant deferrals for two years though.

You should probably check with the colleges you are interested in to find out for sure.

I read on the Columbia board about a guy whose admission was deferred for two years; he was a deemed scholar though. You should check with the school that admitted you.

what are the chances of me (an international student) getting into places like…santa monica college, los angeles city college or other colleges?

i have an O level certificate (6 O levels credits) that is similiar to the UK education system, and also a diploma from a tertiary institution.

they do allow you to defer enrollment (usually 1 year) since you have NS. there are some univs that do not allow this though, notably UC berkeley. not sure about 2 years. you’ve got to ask your school counselor whether any male alumni had successfully reserved his place for 2 years.
