The Heterodox Academy last year published a guide to “Politically Diverse Colleges” that generated quite a discussion on CC. Their latest guide rates the USN&WR top universities based on four criteria to compile a list based upon acceptance of different viewpoints on campuses (it notes this as a first edition, final to be released in Dec. 2016). This seems to be the first attempt by any organization to collectively address campus freedom of speech issues, with a dominant reliance on the “Chicago Principles” of free expression. Take it for what it’s worth.

The Heterodox Academy Guide to Colleges rates America’s top 150 universities … according to their commitment to viewpoint diversity. Is it a place where you are likely to encounter a variety of views on politically controversial topics? Or do school policies – or the students themselves– impose a rigid political orthodoxy that punishes dissenting opinions and creates a climate in which students are afraid to speak up, even in seminar classes?
