College Visit Reports - Suggestions

I’ve had the same problem as saint paul. I wanted to make a second report after revisiting, but it would only let me edit what I had… when I clicked edit though it was giving the timing out message.

I am having trouble posting a visit report for Penn State. Also, I agree with previous posters about not being able to post reports (and there being no forum) for some of the smaller colleges, particularly the PA state schools.

Currently, we only have schools with active discussion forums. We’ve avoided setting up forums for schools that haven’t been discussed much in the general forums as we don’t want a bunch of dead forums that get a post or two a month. (This is to avoid members posting questions that don’t get answered, etc.) We’ll see if there is a technical workaround to add colleges to the Visits section without an actual discussion forum.

I wanted to post a visit to a college that is not already on the list and I wasn’t able to.

Roger, This is from August of last year:

Roger,
I would very much like to add Roanoke (VA) college, Champlain (VT) College and Kutztown University of PA. I just can’t figure out your reasoning for listing some colleges and not others. There are many colleges the same size or smaller, no better stats as the three I listed above that have zero posts. I have done reviews of each of these colleges. I have asked a couple of times about adding Roanoke to no response.

I would really, really appreciate it if you would at least add Roanoke College. There are colleges listed that have ZERO discussion or visit reports. I have visit reports for three colleges and would love to get a discussion going about Roanoke. Roanoke has repeatedly been talked about in the Parents forum - doesn’t that count??

Could you please make a section for uc santa cruz?

And Elizabethtown and Roanoke and Kutztown and Champlain College??

Roger, where are you???

And Hillsdale

@KathieP
Elizabethtown, Roanoke, Kutztown & Champlain College (s) have been added.

@momoftwins
Hillsdale has been added.

@juniorita
Santa Cruz already exists & has 2 current reports.

Thank you, AnthonyG.

thanks! =]

I have tried to post my Cal Poly visit four times now and each time, after typing it out and clicking the “post” button it tells me that I am not signed in. I have “remember me” checked and have re-logged in and tried to re-post the visit report but I get the same “you are not logged in” message when I push post. I have posted visit reports before without this happening.

The “Where to Dine” section (or whatever it’s called; near the end) appears to have a 200-char limit while typing, but cuts down to something shorter than that when submitting.

I forget to check this section. How about a sticky at the top of each college thread that has trip reports as previously suggested?

I suggested SUNY New Paltz several days ago(filled out the form)But It has not been added to the list. How Long does it usually take. Why does a college have to be suggested first? Couldn’t the visit form just include a space for the college’s name?

How about allowing comments on the visit reports? That would allow people to discuss common themes, or point out reasons a certain visit might have been atypical!

It would be so nice to have a sticky to the visit reports on each college’s forum discussion page.

The idea of overviews of the college visits is mildly interesting, but what would really be useful would be a listing of college visit itineraries. There is nothing more difficult than planning out a series of college visits over a 2-10 day period and trying to figure out if you are being too ambitious, or missing a great school just 20 minutes off your path. It is ridiculous that each student & parent team has to “reinvent the wheel” on this one, when so many have gone before. I found some information on tripadvisor.com when I plugged in a few search words like “college visit + chicago” or “college visit + washington d.c.” but it was kind of hit or miss. It would be so great to find out where people stayed, how long it took to get from place to place, can you book info sessions online, when is their spring break, should you try to fit in an interview, does it pay to have a car or is public transportation better in a given city, what is the parking like around the school, what other schools are near, etc.

Of course, this could get really advanced and include the student’s stats, which would make it unbelievably helpful. For example, Harvard and Suffolk University are very close to each other, indeed, but the statistical range of their average applicants is not. It is much more useful to know that Loyola Chicago and DePaul are very close to each other as they have more similar statistical ranges.

Thanks for the improvements on the individual college’s pages!
