I'm visiting Auburn University and University of Alabama tomorrow, and a week from now I'll be visiting Ohio State University and Ohio University. Can some of you college wiz's give me some pros/cons on these Universities, if you're familiar with one, or all. I'll take your feedback into consideration when I'm visiting them the next couple of weeks, thanksssss.

What are you planning on majoring in, just out of curiosity?

Ohio State's campus is huge. Granted, I've only been on the medical center side. Far too many times for my liking. But from what my mom tells me, the dorms aren't that great. Buckeye pride is strong. Heh. OSU is a great school, honestly. I'd consider going there if they offered my major and I didn't want to get the heck OUT of OH.

Ohio University is a bit of a "party school". I say this not just from what the Princeton Review says, but what I know from personal knowledge. I've never been on campus. The only other person I know who went there besides the person I know who got kicked out, dropped out. My mom says (again, I know only what she tells me) Athens isn't a great area.

Everything you said I agree with completely. I used to live in Bexley, Ohio but I haven't taken a full tour of the OSU campus. As for Ohio, my sister went there and tells me stories about the college town atmosphere and how nuts it gets. It kinda blows how it's in the middle of no where, though.

My son looked at OSU a couple years ago and I got to go along on the visits. The dorms were by far the worst we saw in any of our college visits. In many (not all) they room 4 to a bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds on each side of the room and a closet/bureau on the end. There is a second room which is attached which has 4 desks in it and a bathroom that's attached as well (which the students are responsible for cleaning). I thought the space was just horrible. My daughter had a summer program which was also housed in the dorms and even for a week the space was really cramped.

OSU is very large. You have to want that type of college. They do have an honors program and there are even some segregated honors living arrangements but in my opinion its too large. If you are not in an honors program it can be really really hard to get your desired course selections. My daughter, who's a junior, refuses to even consider the school. When you go make sure you really spend the time to get a feel for the place and make sure you visit a dorm that you would likely be housed in.
