College Visits in TN, NC, VA

I'm going on some college visits this summer and I'm looking for more schools to visit in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. Already considering Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

-about 5,000 to 7,000 students
-strong biology departments
-good reputation
-plan on pre-med

Any suggestions of schools in TN, NC, and VA would be greatly appreciated.

Vanderbilt, Duke, William and Mary?, Wake Forest?

Oh I didn't see that you already said Vandy and Wake Forest LOL, my bad

I'm not sure how big Davidson is, but it has strong bio and pre-med.

Duke, W&M, Georgetown (just over the river in DC)

UVA or JMU

JMU is James Madison U.

We were told by a dean of admissions at U.Va that james Madison has become quite a contender these days. He estimates that JMU is now just below UVa and W& Mary & Va Tech in standing at present. He said it was worth looking at.
I also got a recommendation from Mary Washington, but I don't know what kind of school that is.
Don't recall your major, but St.John's College in Annapolis, MD is well regarded in the liberal arts and political science and philsophy.

any more suggestions

Not sure how strong the biology dep't is, but Elon in N. Carolina may be worth a look. It has about 4,800 undergrads (which is slightly larger than Wake Forest's undergrad population), has a beautiful campus, but is a bit easier to get in than Wake and Vandy.

Sewanee: The University of the South

Not for everyone, but definately worth a look at. Top 40 LAC, if my memory serves me right.

Davidson College (just north of Charlotte) elite liberal arts school in quaint, upscale village
Hampden-Sydney College all men's school in south central Virginia, founded 1776,very conservative, traditional, very strict honor code, the absolute epitome of a Southern gentleman's school
Washington and Lee like Davidson,an elite liberal arts school, aristocratic feel to the campus, located in beautiful Lexington,Virginia

JMU and UVirginia are much larger than OPs parameters. Both are approx 15000 undergrads. Best schools at that size are William & Mary, Duke, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt.

This schools is smaller than your request, but you might look at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC.

bump bump bump

Davidson, Washington & Lee, and Sewanee are a good bit smaller than the OP's stated size parameters. I believe all have less than 2,000 undergrad students.

In terms of reputation, JMU isn't even close to UVA/WM

UNC Wilmington has 10,500 undergrads and a really strong biology department.

This is in South Carolina, but College of Charleston sounds like what you're looking for.
