College Visits

Hi so I'm a sophomore and I was planning on starting to do some college visits this year so that I'd have less to deal with next year. I was wondering if anyone had some tips on what to look for or questions to make sure to ask, any help would be great. Oh and also I was thinking it could be helpful to make myself some kind of form to fill out, kinda like the ones that people fill out for campus vibe, but maybe a little bit more comprehensive, do you guys have suggestions for what I could put on it? I know that sounds a little weird, but I just think it would be helpful and make me think. Thanks.

Oh also if anyone has any suggestions for nice colleges to visit in the fall and winter in the Northeast that would also be great

I think it is great you are starting early!

This is a subject discussed often here on CC, if you search you will find many discussions. When we did it as a family, we would always do a “brain-dump” back in the hotel room. My son would open a document on his laptop and we would each record our thoughts about what we saw that day. Only once did we visit two schools in one day and we were sorry we did. We feel like we rushed too much and didn’t get to see everything and talk to enough people.

As for the northeast, there are tons of schools. What types of schools are you interested in? How much time will you have? Any constraints?

Oh yeah I like the “brain dump” idea, and thanks so much for all the articles. Yeah I don’t really have any specific ideas for what kind of colleges I’m interested in, I have been trying to avoid getting too caught up on any one, and no there really are no constraints. I’m starting early so that I’ll have time to visit a bunch of them, because we may just do some weekend trips around, I mean we’ll definitely do the “classics” ya know the ivy’s and such, but I’d love to get some suggestions for maybe lesser known schools that anyone has visitted or attended that they love.
