Hey, simple (poll) question. How many college visits did you all go on/plan to. (List them if you want!)
I’ve been on 6 college tours and I will go on one or two more once I hear back from the places I applied, but those will be repeats from this past summer/fall.
Haha people basically know me as the college kid. I’ve toured nine schools but have been to a bunch more:
Uf 2x
Ucf2x
Penn state
Pitt
Ohio state
Georgetown
Maryland
William and mary
Fgcu
Highly recommend touring a bunch. I toured around 8 and it definitely helped me get a better feel for the schools I was looking at (there’s only so much you can learn about a school and its vibe from just research/without visiting). Touring helped me figure out what I liked in a school, didn’t like, aspects I felt were necessary, and ultimately helped me pick and realize what my top choice is

We visited 18! Did a tour of 7 in Northern NY and New England as Spring Break junior year (deliberately mixing up size, rural/urban mix, more traditional vs. progressive), 4 in Ohio (1 trip), 5 in Pennsylvania (two trips), and 2 in CT.
The first trip helped clarify what we were looking for but was also a bit overwhelming. Based on reactions to what we saw, the college counselor made (great) suggestions, and we never did more than 4 in a trip after that.
Four schools got re-visits (as they were in the running for ED), but we figure that we’ll have a chance to see the others again only if they’re still in the running after decisions are made.
I’ve driven around UCB, NYU, Columbia, & Northwestern. Haven’t formally visited a school.
For D2: UChicago, Macalester, Carleton, Lawrence, Knox, Rose-Hulman, Kenyon, Oberlin, Wesleyan, Mount Holyoke, Haverford, Swarthmore, Dickinson, Grinnell, Reed, Whitman, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, Caltech, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
D1: Carleton, UWisconsin, Mount Holyoke, Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Dickinson, Gustavus, American, Georgetown, GW, Haverford, UChicago.
We like to shop. Wove in a lot with vacations over a couple year period for each.
I applied mostly to schools on the east coast/New England (which is pretty far away from me), so we planned a single trip out there and did 10 tours in the span of a week…there was a lot of driving between states lol. I’ve also toured three other schools closer to me.
I haven’t done any
This looks like we were awful parents, but both were athletes, so there are some OVs and UVs and showcase tours mixed in with “vacations” and intentional trips over a span of 5 years… (there were also some "drive by’s that I didn’t list). In chronological order:
