College Websites are Horrible

This is just a general rant. Ok not all college websites are horrible, but a lot are so convoluted and confusing its no wonder anyone is able to apply. I really wish they had a link that was like "so you want to apply to X", like right on the front, and it just went step by step on everything you had to do. Honestly it is like they are weeding out the stupid people by making their sites a maze. I know its not impossible or anything but still, it could be made a lot simpler, that's all I'm saying, and it is a lot of added stress to try to figure out if you covered everything, who needs teacher recs, who doesnt, who accepts optional things, who doesnt, where the scholarships are, etc. Anyone else have opinions, or am I the only one who has to quadruple check each time to make sure I have everything covered?

I definitely have some college sites I like more than others. I've had a particularly hard time with Oxbridge in England, and particularly dislike Stanford's site in the States.

i usually get to find what i need. only website i didn't like is Umich one.

banedon,

I forgot about my dislike of the UMich site. Thanks for reminding me.

My pet peeve is when I go to look at a department's faculty list, and it's hard to find either CVs from profs or so much as their research interests. So irritating.

UMich has an ugly website :-)

I hate carnegie mellon's. I'm trying to apply to their music school which is due december 1st and their music application link is broken. I mean c'mon. They also have two different sites for the College of Fine Arts...I'm assuming the prettier one is the current one. And their front page is ugly. The only thing that's good is the admissions part of their site that has chirping birds in the background. Oh so relaxing.

So many college websites are just confusing and that's why they are horrible.

Only one I haven't liked is UMich's.

I'm happy I have company!

UCLAri-- yeah the ucas website was sooo confusing (at least for an american who had no idea what alot of the stuff meant.

and as for online applications: i loved uchicago's, but everyone else's as been terrible in comparison. ESPECIALLY the common app, which should be the best because it is so important.

Northeastern has a fantastic application that is done/hosted by www.student-1.com . It's basically an interactive PDF document. Very cool!

Northeastern is #1 on my list.

Ah, U of M's is HORRIBLE. I totally agree with what you said about it being like they're trying to weed people out... it's like, "Find the link to our med school, and you're in!" Seriously. That's how well they hide it.
If you're ever bored, try to find the link to U of M's premed program, or their med school....

Well, I was bored so I decided to give that a go... I found it in 3 minutes...

Gjob - did you find the med school or the pre-med program? or both?

lol...just google it... why waste time searching through the site?

I found med school one in 3 minutes... for pre med, just use the search bar on their site and it comes right up. But like bluthunder said, googling would be simplest.
