Hello friends, I have a few questions for you!

Background: I'm a senior in high school this year, so college is really starting to freak me out. I've been accepted to a few different schools but I have a few issues. I will be attending Sam Houston State University (eh) next year because it is close to home/family issues. My plan is to attend Sam for a year and then transfer to UT's McCombs school of business (yikes!)

Q1. What can I do now and next year at Sam to make my chances of getting into McCombs more likely? EX: ec's, volunteer, gpa, etc.

Q2. I'm waiting to hear back from Sam's honors college, but if I do get in will this benefit me? If so, how?

Q3. What are the statistics for McCombs? What kind of people get accepted? Percentages?

Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated! THANK YOU!

EDIT: I just read something about CAP schools? Can anyone enlighten me on this?

To transfer from SAM into McCombs your going to need a pretty stellar GPA, I’d say 3.6 at least and thats definitely the least. Since your already in college at the time you apply they don’t really have any SAT-like tests to base your admission on, so GPA is the greatest factor in your admission. Another option you might consider is transferring into a different colleges like liberal arts were the admission process is much less competitive, and then try working your way into the business program from inside the school which would be easier. When you get to SAM next year take on a rigorous course load and bust your ass, I mean bust it, bust it so hard you’ll need daily applications of Vaseline just to sit down. If you can do that and make, say around a 3.7 or higher, you should be able to get in. Just remember that your GPA is going to be the largest factor and EC’s don’t make up for bad GPA, they only make those with high GPA’s look better.
Hopefully this helps.
