Which college has the English department?

That’s like asking which college has trees on its campus. You’ll have to be a great deal more specific than that.

Which part of the country (Midwest, Southeast, etc.)?

Public or private?

Coed or single-sex?

Rural, suburban, or urban?

Small (< 2000), medium (2000-10000), or large (10000+)?

Is cost an issue?

Do you want certain extracurricular activities, like a fencing team?

Popular Greek life or no Greek life?

Do you have special needs (LD, physically disabled, etc.)?

How selective do you want?

the school has to have the following characteristics:
-Northwest or Midwest
-private
-coed
-suburban or urban
-medium (2000-10000) or large
-cost is not an issue
-political based activities, soccer, study abroad,

Excuse me Everyone
The post was supposed to say “What colleges has the best english departments?”

Mike, I answered you in another thread and didn’t realize you wanted to be in the Northwest or Midwest.

Here are some schools that meet your criteria

University of Chicago–excellent English department
Northwestern
Washington University St. Louis
Macalester
Reed (probably a little smaller than you’d like)
Occidental
Oberlin

Even though you say that you want a private school, I would also take a look at University of Michigan (great school), University of Washington and the University of Wisconsin
