College with a hospital right next to it

My soph. year at Pitt I literally lived next door to a hospital in Lothrop Hall...I used to joke that I could fall out of the window into the hospital if need be :)

On a serious note...Pitt was a great area with as they said lot of hospitals nearby. Presby, Veterns, Childrens, and Magee Women's were on campus (Veterns nearly off-campus though).

My only problem with Presby was with my first ER visit ever (and only so far thank God!). I was just outside the city limits almost at my internship location in an industrial park when I hit a deer (well it hit me...went through my windshield and landed on my head!). I suffered a major eye trauma and had to go to the clinic for check-ups for a few months after my accident.

The main problem I had with them is that they prescribed me a medication that my normal eye doctor told me they should have been keeping a closer eye on me because it can have an affect on your heart rate especially with my high dosage (may slow it down...). That was the main thing that scared me about Presby was that the eye doctors tended to be rushed and didn't tell you the whole story...

The positive part of the experience was that after my ER visit I was discharged at about 1 AM with no corrective lenses (my contacts were obviously ruined and one of my eyes was swollen shut anyway), so I was really scared to walk to my off-campus apartment without having...you know...vision! So...they ER staff called up the U Pitt Police and they picked me up and delivered me safely to my apartment!

Overall Pitt has a great med program and is a great place to go to school...but I'm a little wary of their eye doctors ;)
