College with a hospital right next to it

Oh, I think it does matter. The OP wants to know about places where it is easy to do research and/or volunteer at a hospital. For anyone who wants to consider the possibility of the med school route, it is essential to volunteer to get exposure to patients and/or to shadow a doctor. One of the important differentiators in med school admissions is showing that an applicant knows what a doctor actually does and in fact, having some real experience being around treating patients on a long term basis. Being on a campus where the hospital is large and right on campus, like Case or URochester, is a nice advantage.

Also, I think you'll see for med schools that are part of a university, about 20% of their medical students did their undergraduate study at the same university.
