College with a strong chemistry/pre-med program

IM looking for a college in the northeast (from Virginia up to new England) with a strong chemistry/premed department. I dont want a college where you have to kill yourself to pull out a 3.5. I dont really have any preferences for size/urban or rural.

Also, i dont want to go to a college were the students are the "hippy" type.

Some schools i was looking at were holy cross and university of Rochester.

GPA: 3.75/4.00
Weighted GPA: 4.3/5
Class Rank: Right around top 25 at a upper level public school in maryland (~400 people in my class)
AP Courses at time of application: AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Calculus 1 and 2
AP Chem test score - 5
SAT Score:
720 Math
680 Reading
640 Writing

2040/2400
1400/1600

Also got a 800 on the SAT II Subject test in chemistry

Extracurriculars:
- Played football all 4 years of high school, varsity football for 2 years
- Math Honor society (3 years)
- Science Honor Society (2 years)
- Volunteered at a soup kitchen
- Voluntereed at a youth weight lifting program where i provided weight training instruction
- National Honor Society (2 years)
- Blood Donor (not sure if this really counts though)
- SGA
- Internship at the National Cancer Institute. Involves working full time over the summer and then 3 hours a day during the school year along side a research scientist assisting in his/her research.

never understood why someone who wants to go to an highly ranked excellent college would say something like this:

“I dont want a college where you have to kill yourself to pull out a 3.5”

Thats a good point, maybe i should have worded it different because im perfectly fine with working hard

I dont want to go to a college where there is such significant grade deflation that it will impact my chances at being accepted to med school.

uroch is definitely not the hippy type. quite nerdy-laid-back actually. their grading doesnt seem to be too bad. not cutthroat competition, but still a motivated atmosphere, just cause the kids are generally the smarter, motivated kids to begin with.
and its great for med school if you do good research. and since theres plenty of research opportunities…

ohhowrandom - I definitely like rochester, so far its at the top of my list. I especially like the research opportunities

Some other colleges ive been briefly looking at:
-University of michigan
-Universoty of illinois
-University of pittsburg
-Bucknell
-Lehigh

Some of those are reaches, but any input on those selections

you’re only looking at colleges though… arent you a senior?
a friend of mine is set on lehigh since its really good for engineering. plus its a very white, athletic feel school.
the others i dont know much about

Lehigh and Bucknell would fall perfectly with your Holy Cross/UofRochester thoughts…both good in the engineering/sciences

Thanks

The only reason i even knew about lehigh and bucknell is because a couple people on my football team got full rides there to play football.

Ill have to take a visit to them this spring.

btw ohhowrandom, im a junior

oh. well i saw football for 4 years so i got confused…

yea, sorry about that.

I figured i should put that stats i would have when im applying to these schools, sorry for the confusion

Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan are all good choices. Of the three you might like UW the best and their chem dept is ranked between Illinois and Michigan. UW is also outstanding in biochem and cheaper than the other two OOS.
