I got accepted into Purdue, OSU, U of Pitt, U of Cincinnati, and CWRU and I really need help on deciding which school would be best for me… My preferences are a bigger city and good research/co-op opportunities. I got into Pitt’s and OSU’s honors colleges as well but did not get accepted into Purdue’s.
Purdue is probably the best option here, but they are all comparable. Cincinnati has a great co-op program but one of the weaker CS departments here, so that would probably average out to be a close second. CWRU has a very standard CS department but a good name in the tech world. OSU is a solid, large state school. I haven’t heard much about U of Pitt for CS but again, a good school overall.
Purdue is the standout, but I think there’s a fair case for any of them.
None of these are in a real big city in my opinion, at least not from what makes a city valuable to a college student. Most are cities of industry, and more sprawling compared to many others. Not nearly as good as others on the public transportation front either. Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Pittsburg will all be pretty comparable experiences.
Based on that consideration, I think I would narrow to Purdue, U of Cincinnati, and maybe CWRU. Then it’s a battle between best for CS, best for co-op, and a mix of everything.
@PengsPhils Thank you so much! You were very helpful!
Can you visit any of your choices? Being from Western PA, I consider Pittsburgh a great city. You might agree or disagree.
@bodangles I have visited every school but Purdue and Pitt but I heard the surrounding area in Pittsburgh is very nice! I am actually visiting Purdue this upcoming weekend as well
