I'm into nerdy/geeky stuff like all kinds of technology, making websites, developing apps and building things and creating new business ideas.

I DO NOT want to go somewhere with less than 2000 students or people that are so nerdy they dont like to party on the weekends - or the ocasional weekday

what schools would be good?

Let me know if anyone feels the same way and where your going to school!

Not quite the answer you’re looking for, but in my experience, nerds tend to find each other. Even if you’re at a big school that isn’t particularly nerdy, your nerdy senses will start tingling and you will find like minded people.

that being said, MIT has supposedly legendary parties, and from what u hear it’s pretty nerdy. Other can include Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Cornell, Stanford, and other big names ( this is just going by what I have read. I don’t go to any of these schools)

Also, if you want the big school party atmosphere while still having a smaller inner circle of nerds, consider an honors college at a state school.

Generally every large university with an engineering school is going to have a lot of “nerds.” Some, MIT and CalTech have a nerdy stigma more than others, but with that their work is harder and their social settings are not as party-oriented as say large public schools.

I’m an incoming freshman, so don’t know much. But heard this from one of my suite-mate at summer school here…

Well, at UConn here, it is somewhat nerdy in a sense. We might be the #2 “partiest” public school in the northeast, but we are more academically focused. There are many Asians and smart whites here, so there’s a bit of nerdy circles. You can find these folks in the library or somewhere is the dinning halls all over campus. But most of what we consider “nerds” in our school, tends to hang out with the preppy and “cool” kids, don’t ask me why. I don’t know, kinda strange.

Pretty much any private university, really. You’ll have places like UChicago, where an official motto is “where fun goes to die,” or like my school, where you usually see more kids with Macbooks studying in the dining hall than kids eating.

I’m not familiar with public school settings, but I’d imagine it’s no different, except with bigger parties.

MIT is super nerdy but I can confirm that the parties are truly, truly insane

The more highly ranked the school is in computer science/computer engineering/math/physics, the nerdier it will be. Some types of engineering just aren’t nerdy at all, really, so I wouldn’t make a blanket statement about engineering in general. I’d say the hardcore, Urkel-esque nerds are concentrated in computer science, computer engineering, math, and physics.

Isn’t CMU famous for this?

Caltech, CMU, MIT, Harvey Mudd, I think Rose Hulman as well.

Anywhere. You will find these people anywhere.
