<p>Are there colleges that will accept students who have not gotten a hs degree or GED? I know hs kids can enroll concurrently in community college, but I'm wondering about instead of, nor concurrent or applying to 4 yr colleges. I know there are colleges that offer bright kids the opportunity to enter after 11th grade. Anyone know whether this is only for kids that are the hs equivalent of ABD?</p>

<p>Actually, there are several; oddly, it seems that the best colleges are the most likely to accept students with no HS degree. Look on the application page for colleges that interest you to find out. Obviously, it depends WHY you have no HS diploma. If you’re homeschooled, that’s essentially the same as a HS program and you can get a diploma from your parents or umbrella school (of course, it’s the transcript that counts, not the diploma). At the moment, I only see that Caltech specifically says no degree is required (and it mentions the ABD flavor), but I know there are more.</p>
<p>Very few colleges and universities actually require HS completion or the GED. As GM63 advises, read through the websites of the institutions that you are interested in, and contact the admissions offices for clarification of their specific policies.</p>

This came up in a discussion with some worried moms yesterday; they have kids with various challenges that are making getting through hs difficult. Some are very bright, but have LDs that keep them from getting through public hs. Others have behavioral issues and are at residential programs so they may not end up with all the right i’s dotted.
I was pretty sure that hs grad was not a requirement, but since they were all sure I was crazy I figured I’d double check. They’re middle school moms, so I’ll tell them to a) take a chill pill and b) come to cc in a few years.
