college work

I'm gonna be heading up for goergia tech to study mech eng this fall.... and I've heard stories about the amount of pressure and work load that comes with the course and attending the school. Is it true that the average student sleeps for only three hours?

Both my parents majored in Chem. Engineering, although at a different college, and I hear that they were able to survive and have a social life while succeeding academically. Although you will have those stressful, loaded, busy nights as well, especially near tests.

Three hours? Where on earth did you hear that?

I’m an aero. engr. major, so my workload is comparable to what yours will be, and I usually will get 6 hours every night (and I also work part-time). So no, you won’t be sleeping only 3 hours every night… but some nights, yes. It’s all about time-management. You will have a big workload though, especially when compared to many other majors.

Throughout high school, I was used to sleeping 8-9 hours every night. Will that be difficult during college?

It might be tricky if your next-door neighbor has a late-night party and you have to get up “early” for that 9 am class  But the academic workload itself won’t prevent you from getting 8 hours of sleep!

Thanks, b@r!um – I’m quite glad to know that my workload won’t prevent me from my beauty rest, hahaha! :)
