College

Hello. I want to major in Astronomy. But less than a handful of colleges and universities offer said course, and even less than that in my area (NYC). I was wondering if I could, say, enroll in a school not offering my major for the time-being and later transfer to one that does. The reason I ask this is because, as of now, my chances for the schools offering my major aren't as high as one would expect, given my deep interest for Astronomy. I request urgent responses from anyone who would like to assist me in this sensitive situation. Thank you.

If you can’t get in now, why do you expect to be able to get in after a set of difficult math and physics prerequisites in college? An astronomy major involves a lot of math and physics, and you can’t wait until you’ve transferred to start them.

But I don’t start my actual major until my junior year (in most cases). Isn’t it possible for me to maintain a high gpa and then transfer to another school?

Potential problem is that you may need pre requisites that you would have taken prior. Check that.

Yes. I’ve been told that not all classes may transfer over. But if I’m willing to re-take some classes, can I transfer? And can I do it within two years of enrollment in a school?
