Collegeboard profile

forgive me for being ignorant, but what exactly is the collegeboard profile? Where do I get it? When do we submit it for ED? Thanks in advance

On Collegeboard, there is a heading titled "Pay for COllege". Clicking on that tab will give you a menu of stuff, and on the left side, in green, you should see "PROFILE Online".

It's due November 1st with the rest of the app, but it is really annoying to fill out and very complicated, I thought.

Good luck!

18 bucks per school? So for 10 schools, I'll have to pay 180 bucks. Darn CB, first the SAT, now this. Anyways, can I fill it out for Penn right now, and fill one out for the other schools later on? Or does it have to be fill out and send to every school on my list at one time?

What Is This For??

Financial Aid??

spazallan are you planning to compare 10 offers of financial aid? Is that why you mention the $18??

can someone please help me!!

is this for financial aid or general?

I am an international and I dont want financial aid! Should I care about this?

Thanks

hazmat, I'm applying to about 10 schools, including ED to Penn, and I was under the impression that I have to sent a PROFILE to every single school. I need financial aid, and so I'm asking for aid at every school I'm applying to. I just found out about the PROFILE thing today, so I'm a little confused about it.

I DO NOT understand the point of this profile at all. How come I have never heard about this? Please, whoever knows all about college board's profile please explain to me. I'm registered on college board btw.

I am applying for financial aid and applying ED somewhere. I have the form filled out, but honestly have never heard of this Profile.

Thanks

If you had visited the financial aid website or read print materials from your college the instructions to file are very clear. The financial information collected on this form are different than FAFSA....therein lies the need. Did you read the documents and dates required to qualify for financial aid from your school??? If you haven't you need to do so.......many schools have their own requirements, dates of submission and additional documentation. This is important if you are wanting OPM.

spazallan The best I can tell you is that you have applied to Penn ED therefor, if you are accepted you must withdraw all other applications. This you knew at the get go......what the deadlines for filing the Profile are at your other schools I cannot answer. At the rate of $18/ea I wouldn't send any profile other than Penn until you find out if you are In/Deferrerd/OUT at Penn.

Have you made a spreadsheet for the remaining schools? Do you know what each school requires of you? Comparing financial aid offers can also be complicated......I'd get a method now for recording and comparing the money. Good Luck

thanks, hazmat for the help. I'm just gonna fill one out now for Penn, and I'll fill another one for other schools after I hear my decision from Penn.

Don't forget there is a parents portion........they may need your help. The instructions are direct and online has cues to good luck. Remember to submit by the 1st......in case you parents need to locate forms. Sorry you just found out about this. It does get better and once you are a Quaker you will only have to worry about one school.

how long will it take to fill the thing out? I'm still working on the other parts of my app.

Perhaps an hour......but you need all of the info at your fingertips. You can use the FAFSA if you have done one.......but you may not have done that yet. You have another day.....but get the info together.

would it be possible to print out that confirmation sheet at the end and send it manually to all colleges? that would be much much cheaper than 18 bucks. i'm assuming that the answer is no, though.

CSS Financial Aid PROFILE Codes

The PROFILE form is administered by the College Scholarship Service (CSS), the financial aid division of the College Board. The CSS PROFILE is required by many private colleges and universities to determine your eligibility for non-government financial aid, such as the institution's own grants, loans and scholarships. The CSS PROFILE was formerly known as the FAF.

The biggest differences between the CSS PROFILE and the FAFSA are:

* Submission dates: The CSS PROFILE can be submitted in the fall; FAFSA cannot be submitted before January 1.
* Specific questions: The CSS PROFILE contains questions specific to the school or program you're applying to; FAFSA contains the same questions for everyone.
* Different methodology: The CSS PROFILE determines your financial need differently than the FAFSA, taking into account such factors as whether your family owns a home. In general, the CSS PROFILE asks for more detailed information than FAFSA.
* Minimum student contribution: The CSS PROFILE requires this; the FAFSA doesn't.
* Greater reliance on professional judgment: The CSS PROFILE gives financial aid counselors greater freedom to grant aid based on a student's particular circumstances.

Cost: CSS PROFILE costs $5 plus $18 for each school or scholarship program selected; the FAFSA, as the name implies, is free.

how long does the profile take to fill out?

see post 14......the greater amount of time is assembling the needed materials.
