Colleges accepting good SAT Reading scores instead of TOEFL

Hi, do you know about some schools waiving TOEFL requirement if you score well on the CR section of SAT? I know about rinnell College (If you have 600 you dont have to send TOEFL), but I was just wondering whether there are more of them.

yeah, cornell, rochester etc.

Brown University, to supplement the list.

I’ve to add that if you earn 650 on Critical Reading, it’s very likely your TOEFL will be waived practically everywhere you apply. Some schools may not state this officially though, in which cases, you have to contact the Admissions Office (either via emails or phone calls) to have your questions accurately addressed.

I think for Columbia U, a CR of 650? Toefl is waived
and williams college too

but I just wonder if it is better to send the toefl anyway?

They mostly do, but Connecticut college, Carleton, Colgate, Wooster didnt waive it. Some havent answered but in the end I wouldnt have to do the TOEFL, because I have 8 schools w/o app. fee and w/o TOEFL (so the application will cost me 9.5 dolars per…) and several others which are very generous to the internationals w(o the TOEFL.

OMG those school do not waive TOEFL. Did you get definite answers from their counselors or what?

OMG don’t talk when you have no idea what you’re talking about! Many schools waive their TOEFL requirements if you have studied in English or have sufficient SAT CR score.
As you can see, in the last post I named 4 colleges which did not waive it. However, I have a list of approcimately 20 top schools which would waive it because I have 690 on Critical reading.

I screwed my TOEFL (I scored 95), but my CR score is 670, which is enough for some universities to waive my TOEFL requirement (Brown, Richmond, Lehigh, Texas Christian). Somewhere it’s not even required, only recommended (Williams, Duke). However, there are some schools that do require TOEFL. I contacted Rice, Claremont McKenna and Occidental to ask if there is a case in which TOEFL requirement can be waived and they said that I won’t be accepted for admission if my score is lower than 100. So, you should ask the college about waiving the requirement and see what they will answer.
