Colleges and a GED?

Okay, so I was talking to my high school councilor one day, and I asked about whether colleges are going to care that much about having a GED. I had to leave school last May due to health problems, and lost all my credits, thusly being too far behind in school. I didn't want to go back for an extra year, so I opted to get my GED through the school. I did a good job on it, scoring pretty high.

My councilor said that as long as I meet school requirements, having a GED should not matter, and that in a few years, nobody is going to care as long as I have a degree.

What do you think? Is a GED really that big of a deal, or will it actually hinder somebody's chances of getting into college? What about homeschooled kids that get them? Do colleges care that much, or do they only care as long as you can do the work and meet requirements?

Not only will you be fine, you could probably write an essay about your health problems and not being able to finish school with ur friends to tug at the heartstrings of adcoms, and talk about how you overcame that by getting a GED and get into top schools.

Yeah but I didn't. Unfortunately. I didn't really mention my health problems. All I said about them was I had some "problems in my life that didn't require me to finish school like normal," and went on with the essay topic (which was about my ECs).

But I scored MUCH higher on the GED than is required. Much, much higher. And my ACT score is higher than the requirement.

Gah.

I'm just so afraid I won't get in because of my GED. =/ It's like everyone I know is telling me to just give up because of it. Seriously. It sucks.
