The colleges and universities attended on the common app have room to enter 3 colleges. My s22 took dual enrollment classes (is not on the high school transcript) from 4 local community colleges and one from BU (part of a summer pre-college program).
How and where do we enter the 4th Community college and the BU on the common app?
It probably is possible to list the BU class under activities as it is a summer pre-college orchestra that earns 3 BU credits.
Alongside this I have another question. Is there a place to enter the college courses taken (not credited by high school) and grades? We didn’t see any in common app. Should we do it in additional info session?
The listing in the additional info section is optional. I was saying you can use the additional info section as well as sending the transcripts, but the sending of transcripts, for most colleges, is not optional
We have a similar issue, as my son has taken dual enrollment courses at eight different colleges. We opted to switch to the Coalition App since it allows space for at least eight (possibly more) colleges. Unfortunately, there are a couple of colleges that ONLY accept the Common App, so we are trying to figure this out too. We will probably use the “Additional Information” section to list the extra colleges in Common App for those colleges that don’t accept Coalition App.
By the way, we are trying to fill the application, unable to find the additional information section. Does this kind of sneak up on us like reveals itself after finishing “some mysterious” section? Which part of the application does it show up? After finishing up activities?
I thought this is entered in the “courses” of the “Courses and grades” section.
As far as my understanding goes high school classes that show up on high school classes are entered in “courses and grades”. right below that there is another section called “courses” is where the applicant enters summer, pre 9th, post 12 th grade classes? My S22 took some college classes in regular academic year, I am assuming those classes are entered here too.
Yes there is a place to enter the college(s) you took courses from but there’s no place to enter the actual course details like course name and grade received. We skipped adding it to the additional info, instead ordered an official transcript from those colleges to each EA she’s applying to. Hope that helps.
The courses section is for current / future courses. There is no place to list the course details of any past non-DE college courses. The college name is listed under the colleges attended section, but the details are only available through the additional info section and/or on the college transcript.
Found the additional information section that shows up right after the “writing section”
S22 has a course section that popped up right after finished entering the courses and grades from high school. We have not filled it yet, but we see what pops out once we finish with the high school courses.
Took a Spanish 3 from another online high school, even though that shows on the current high school transcript, we had to enter the second high school’s name because of a summer term of Spanish 3 after 9th and a full year of Spanish 1 while in 8th grade from that school. Are we on the right track so far about entering another high school as attended? We had to do that for UCs, so assumed the same for common app also.
Alright, finally things make sense, not all colleges require the student to self-report their grades. only a handful. If one college we are applying requires it, we have to fill that section even the other colleges we apply do not require it. That probably is why there is not much buzz around the exact number of colleges attended while in high school. Most of the colleges want to put that part together themselves with the transcripts obtained directly from the institutions.
Here is what I found on common app FAQ :
To report courses that you’ve taken prior to the 9th grade, or post-12th grade, please use the “Other Courses” section.
To report summer courses, please use the “Other Courses” section.
One more question on this topic, when entering colleges attended, the college classes S22 took will not be on the high school transcript, what do we choose for the type of enrollment?
Dual enrollment
Credit awarded directly by the college
To give some background information, the colleges require a dual or concurrent enrollment form from our high school administration in order to be able to register and take classes at their college. Do we choose dual enrollment based on that or option 3 since these classes are not used for high school graduation and do not show up on the transcript.
@Advitha, Just checking your reply.
You are right, we ended up doing the same. We decided to mention the other 2 colleges (names only) that did not fit under the “Colleges and Universities” section in the additional information. Left out the course names and grades earned since we will be mailing the transcript anyway.
Figured where and how to enter the summer term as well.
Thank god for the forum, and thanks everyone again for all your help.
