Colleges and Universities near Yale

first post

I'm looking for any decent college or university near Yale. Nearness should be an hour away at the most (drive time). For personal reasons, I cannot apply to Yale, however I would like to find a decent place to be educated near Yale, decent enough to get me into a nice graduate school. If anyone has any places, please post, I appreciate the thought and effort.

I don't understand your motivation in trying to be near Yale. However...

University of New Haven
Southern Connecticut State University
Quinnipiac
Albertus Magnus

Can't think of any others, but hope that's helpful.

Probably the best school near Yale that's not Yale is Wesleyan in Middletown. But it's pretty hard to get in. Trinity in Hartford and Connecticut College in New London are also good. Fairfield U. in Fairfield isn't bad either. UConn in Storrs is probably more than an hour's drive, but they have a West Hartford campus as well, which is closer. University of Bridgeport is also nearby, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you wanted to expand your definition of "near" to include NYC (about an hour and 40 minutes by train), you'd have more choices.

Other CT schools in order of difficulty:

Wesleyan U (middletown- 30 minutes away)
coast guard academy (new london- 40 minutes)

Connecticut College (new london 40 minutes)
Trinity College (hartford- 40 minutes)

UConn (storrs- 1 hr)

fairfield u (fairfield- 1 hr)
quinnipiac u (hamden- 10 minutes)

U Hartford (west hartford- 50 minutes)
Central CT state U (new britain- 35 minutes)
Sacred Heart U (fairfield- 1 hr)

Eastern CT state U (willimantic- 1 hr)
U New Haven (west haven- 5 minutes)
St Josephs College (west hartford- 45 mins)
Southern CT state U (new haven- 10 mins)
U Bridgeport (bridgeport- 45 minutes)
Albertus Magnus college (New Haven- 5 minutes)

hmm, liberal arts colleges are not going to work for me. None of them really have what I want in Engineering or Mathematics. How far away is Cambridge by train? And I thought NYC was more than 2 hours away.

nyc is on average 110 minutes on metro north ($13 each way)
boston/cambridge is between 2-3 hr train ride

UConn has a fairly good engineering school, and it is not a liberal arts school. But its big, ie 20,000+ students.

NYC is only about an hour away if you drive recklessly, and an hour and fifteen minutes if you obey the speed limits. I would say the best for engineering in NYC is maybe Cooper Union or Columbia's Fu SEAS.

You're not doing this to be near a SO, are you?

Fairfield U and Quinnipiac U are decent, they are about 25 and 10 minutes away, respectively. Of course, there are many others in the area.
