Hi, I don't know if there is thread about this already but I am having a hard time seeing the differences between the colleges at UCSD and just wanted some personal opinions on what these colleges were like. So anyone with experience at UCSD, please do share!

Of course there are many threads about this.

The differences are the dorms, locations, and mainly the GEs.

most difficult GE's
1. Revelle (lots of pre-meds, studious and difficult, a little nerdy, good dining hall, full rounded program including humanities kind of like a LAC)
2. ERC (large female population, nicest dorms by far, a little remote, emphasis on history/world relations, lots of reading and writing)

in the middle
1. Marshall (nice dorms, emphasis on social justice, not as difficult as above, writing)

easiest GE's
1. Muir (known to have the easiest GE's, most social, ugly dorms, closest to the beach and the best dining hall, flexibility)
2. Warren (known to have easy GE's, nice dorms, great school for engineers, very flexible, kind of quiet and nerdy)
3. Sixth (easy GE's, most remote of the dorms, oldest and ugliest dorms, good for those interested in technology and art)

erc, marshall seem to be the best fit for me...

Personally, dorms didn't matter all too much for me, and I rather liked Muir's "independence" theme (not to mention the proximity to the beach and the awesome GEs) so... MUIR I AM!

I think if I hadn't been Muir, I might have been happy with Warren... But Muir is the best for me!

The whole college system they have is screwed up. I personally don't think it matters which one ur in; i'm pre-med and in 6th college b/c i thought 6th would have the newest dorms, since it was the newest college. but i was totally wrong on that one...

I still don't understand the system they have in place at UCSD. What's with all of the schools? Are certain majors only offered at certain schools? Can somebody explain it to me?

No. It's just like..... say.... HARRY POTTER. :D Just gets the people within the same college closer, I guess?

I actually hate Muir's GEs...I don't think they're the easiest. Warren's are..you get more of a choice. Warren's dorms are very nice. And I've read people saying Warren is "so far from everywhere else" or something to that extent....uhhh, there's not really anywhere on campus that's far from anywhere else on campus.

But it's a good thing everyone likes different colleges better than others, otherwise certain ones will be overpopulated again...like this year.............

ignore all that has been said so far and soak in the information that is being dispensed in this reply lol

ERC: they have new dorms. enjoy the new walls, the new kitchen...the two years of MMW... lol. you know MMW don't you? the class about fish, evolution, cavemen...

6th College: the disgrace of UCSD. if you want to feel embarrassed for 4 years, by all means apply to 6th as your number one choice. 6th college people please don't hate me--snoopy likes love not hate lol (6th college people live in a ww2 barrack dubbed "camp snoopy", another disgrace of ucsd).

Warren: living conditions aren't bad. in more than 3 years i've never eaten at their place. can't say much about it.

Muir: dorms suck. muir has the general reputation for having the easiest GEs. their eatery serves customizable ice cream so they don't suck too much.

Revelle: it should be noted that if you like girls you should not be coming to ucsd as it has a severe shortage of hot females. HOWEVER, making do with what ucsd has, revelle has the best looking girls of all 6 colleges. revelle is also known for humanities/writing.

Marshall: the best of the 6 colleges, no doubt. having spicyspaghetti6 and all the other hot guys at marshall make this college a clear winner. we got one year of writing, DOC, which is given bad rep by a large majority of marshall students. don't let their whining fool you--it's really not that bad, not bad at all. more importantly, we got OVT (OPEN TILL 1AM HOLLA) and a bunch of pies. what more can you want.

hope this helped lol

I've heard the opposite. That Revelle girls are the ugliest by far.
Also, all my nerdy science friends went into Revelle. No idea what that means but...

You forgot to mention that Muir is also the most sociable. :D And that we're the closest to the beach. And that we're cool. 8)

I personally think Muir, Warren and Marshall are the top three colleges. The others are cough not up to par.

:P Poor kid, taking in all this biased information.

What biased information? According to science, Muir is the best.

In all due seriousness, however, look at each respective college's breadth requirements for GEs and weight a lot of your rankings based on that. UCSD is still one school, so don't segregate the colleges by that much.

ok first of all it's almost 6 in the morning. what in the world are you two doing up replying to my intelligent reply to the thread starter lol

syneria, i am sorry but revelle CLEARLY--C L E A R L Y--has the best girls out of the 6 colleges. your friend--who obviously has some kind of eye damage--cannot help but see nonexistent hot girls at muir or erc or...

for a nonbiased answer to the question at hand, please see spaghetti's reply. he is the AUTHORITY of UCSD and everything that is cool.

8D I'm still on jet lag.
Came back from Korea two days ago, and for the past two days, I've been up 'til 7 am and then sleep from then on to 10/11 am.

Lawl. ;o If you insist. hrrhum

Edit: on the other hand, what are YOU doing up at this hour?!

hey i'm korean too. i see you have some superior blood in you lol. let's not deviate from the young grasshoppa's topic. but deviating just a little bit... why am i up? good question, i should knock out.

are you hot lol

The three hottest girls from my high school all got into UCSD, and all three were put into 6th college. Dude these girls are HOT!

All three of these really hot girls declined UCSD because they were put into 6th. Way to go UCSD.

lol
you guys are funny...

Those speaking of the hotness of girls @ SD:

At orientation, it was pretty clear that the guys are a far uglier standard than the girls at SD...and this is a guy speaking...thats how obvious the difference is.

It's the women that got it bad, not the men. The men should be happy they're so well off XD.

I suggest the randomly pick the colleges when you apply for UCSD...
Actually, that was probably a bad decision-it is what I did. I got put into Revelle. I dunno. I think that you shouldn't stress about the colleges too much. Which ever one you end up in, you'll hate part of it, and you'll like part of it. I am bummed about all the GE's, but as a science major it will be nice to be surrounded by the sciency college and people of Revelle. But, it will suck to have the old dorms.

from what facebook shows, all the hot girls are either in revelle or sixth and that sucks because i'm stuck in Muir (though there were a few cute ones at orientation).....at least it's close to the beach.
