My daughter got an email from a college yesterday, telling her that they are happy to see that she has listed their school as a school on her Common App, and encouraging her to complete the application.
So, it is clear that colleges can see when a student has listed their own college in a student’s dashboard.
I now wonder if it also possible for colleges to also see which other schools are listed in the student’s dashboard?
I know that I have read that colleges can not see that info, but this email makes me think twice.
What they can see is the other schools you have listed on FAFSA and the order in which they are listed. The recommendation is to list colleges in alphabetical order when completing FSFSA do that no conclusions can be drawn in terms of ranking
It is to early for FAFSA but in this case they knew the student listed them on CA.
From the Common App pages:
Schools do not have any access to your information until you add them to your My Colleges list. At that point, they can see only the information you have filled out for their school. They cannot see other schools to which you are applying.
Any schools listed in My Colleges will have access to the following information from your application: Prefix, First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Suffix, Preferred Name, City, State, ZIP, Country, Ethnicity, Sex, Applicant ID, Citizenship Status, DOB, Entry Term, Decision Type, Applicant Type (First Year or Transfer), Academic Interest, Paid Status, School Officials, School CEEB and School Name.
If you permit schools to communicate with you prior to submitting an application, they will also have access to Address1, Address2, Home Phone, Cell Phone, Fax, Email, SSN and IM Address.
Once you submit an application to a school, that school will have access to all the information on the specific application
Thanks!!!
Did not know this. Thanks for sharing this info!!
