Colleges chances for some guy from Guam

my sucky stats:

SAT: 1400 (750V 650M)

SAT IIs:
Math IIC 660
Physics 580 (heh) - retaking Saturday, actually reviewed this time
Writing didn't come in yet(?)

GPA: 3.9 (school doesnt weigh GPAs)
RIC: #5 (hopefully will go back to #2 by end of the year)

No Honors/AP/etc at my school, but all classes are "honors level" whatever that means

ECs: computer club president, art club secretary, yearbook layout editor, youth group leader, bowling team captain, plus like 8 other clubs. and lots of community service

my essays IMO are stupid, but what do I know. recs should be alright.

Yeah my sat I math is kinda low, but I'm trying to make it up with the IIC.
Also how much of an advantage will colleges give me just because I'm a "pacific islander"/filipino from Guam? Some colleges will probably like me more since I'll contribute to their ever changing diversity and all that right?

I'm not really sure what I want to go into but my prospective majors include Biomedical Engineering, Information Systems Engineering, or maybe something with computers or business.

Since my family's moving to Cali I'm applying to schools there
UCs: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSC, UCI
USC
USF
USD

Trying some (hard) schools on the east coast. Do I have any chances?
UPenn
Brown
Cornell
MIT (no interview, didn't know deadline passed, should I still bother)

Also what other good schools would be nice matches for me?

brizzle:

UCB: Reach
UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Match
UCSC: Safety
UCI: Safe Match

USC: Reach
USF: Safety (?)
USD: Safe Match (?)
UPenn: Reach
Brown: Reach
Cornell: Reach
MIT: Super Reach

I think that Flopsy's being pessimistic here...how many applicants from Guam with 750 scores are these colleges getting? Go for it....

haha thanks, both of you

my sat IIs are freaken ugly, that's probably what brings me down the most. but I'm retaking saturday so they should improve.

bump, anyone have any other comments or suggestions?

also, do I have any real chances at those ivies?

you should also look into John Hopkin's University..... they have an excellent bio-med program

hmm, I'll look into that.

are there any other top schools (or good matches) for me? like especially those colleges that give more consideration to people from geographically underrepresented areas (such as Guam, such as me).

I really need to finalize my list.

Should I still apply to MIT? That's probably the school I like the most, but my math scores are pretty low and plus I didn't get interviewed. Do I even have a chance?

If you can get those SAT IIs up and you really want to go there, you should still apply to MIT. After all, you have ZERO chance of getting in if you don't try. Right?

So true, mathgirl.

As I said in some other post somewhere in these forums, you need to ace math and science for MIT...so bring those physics and math IIC scores up.

(And don't be so pessimistic...)

Call them! I missed the interview deadline and was still able to get one in the beginning of Jan!

Woah that's pretty nice of them. I'll call, hopefully it's not too late. Thanks people, you guys gave me hope.

My math and science apparently arent good enough for MIT, I dont really want the "stressfulness" of Cornell, and I'm not rich enough for USD and it's not that good anyway, so those three are out I guess.

I'm thinking of other schools now, what are my chances at:

Yale
Rice
UVA
Harvey Mudd
Pepperdine

These are mostly reaches, yeah, I actually need more matches.

Looking into either Cali, east coast, or probably other nearby places but location doesn't matter that much. I want good, challenging academics, but with a fun, relaxed, laid back atmosphere and not a lot of competition or stress. Privates would be better than publics for me, as I'm out of state and need some financial aid. Most likely going into engineering. Having a prestigious name helps too, especially for my parents. Anyone know of other colleges that can fit me?

I have no idea where else to apply and have about 1 week left to ask for recs, transcripts, and all that; help
