InvolvedmomFL pretty much summed it up they bring in cash when talking about successful D1 football programs. Its a little different in New England though. Boston University dropped their football program in 1997 to reallocate funds to their mens hockey program. Football was costing BU $3,000,000 annually and bringing in $90,000. The Agganis Arena was built for the BU Terriers hockey program, seats 6300 for hockey games, and 7200 for concerts. The BU Terries won their 5th overall NCAA Frozen Four title this year and they bring in more cash than the other BU sports programs. In Boston NCAA hockey is bigger than NCAA football, basketball, or baseball as far as generating revenue and strongly influences strategic athletic investments.
