hello,

i am wondering what colleges especially excel at graphic, web, and media design and publishing. one of my passions is web and graphic design, and i really like commercial art and advertising as well. just design involving computers in general, but not the traditional art like painting. photoshop, illustrator, flash, etc.

which colleges specialize in this? i know rhode island school of design is renowned in things like this and all things art, but i was hoping to find a college that was more academically balanced, a college that isn't solely devoted to art like risd is.

i'm not interested in cgi and those kind of special 3d effects, but rather, 2d design.

thanks in advance.

Emerson College perhaps? It is centered around communication arts, but a look couldn't hurt.

Try these: Syracuse University, University of Cinncinati, Rochester Institute of Technology, NYU, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Humboldt State, Northeastern U, Chapman University, Carnegie Mellon, SUNY Purchase, Loyola Marymount University, Temple, Arizona State University, University of Denver, U of Delaware, U of Miami, Indiana U, Valparasio, Towson State U, McDaniel College, U of Michigan, Drew U, Ithaca College.

Some of the above definitely have what you are looking for, others may be a fit for your interests (The U of Denver, for example, has a major in electronic arts). For graphic design, you may also want to google The National Association of Schools of Art and Design, which accredits art programs. There is a list of accredited schools on their website, and many also will have programs in the areas you are looking for.

Rochester Institute of Tech (mentioned by Carolyn above) is excellent for this. They have a new program in game design.

thanks for everyone's help and responses! they're much appreciated.
