Colleges for a guy like me.

I'm starting to really get into the college search with junior year ending and APs and finals looming. Does anyone have any good suggestions for schools for me?

Bump.......

Assuming you go to one of the Buckhead schools, why is Vanderbilt not on your list?

Then again, your SAT is low (unless you're Jewish and go to Woodward then you're set) so definitely score higher when you retake it.

I can't get into Vandy with a 3.4...

To be honest, you're actually a fairly impressive applicant. Your ECs are good and a 32 ACT score is very competitive. I think that many adcoms will assess you and your slightly low GPA (believe me, your GPA is good, but low to CCs standards where Ivy-league hopefuls roam about) as perhaps being unmotivated in high school. Your scores and AP coursework certainly show a bright mind, but your statistical GPA doesn't. Colleges will look beyond that.

You can safely add Vanderbilt to your list.

Do you have any significant leadership or awards in your EC's?

You can "safely" add Vanderbilt to your list.

Apply to all schools that you think you'll be happy at even if you dont think you'll get in ( as long as you have safeties obv.) and if you dont do better on you Oct. SAT, do not send them!!! You have a very competetive ACT and I think you def. have a good shot at top schools. Good Luck

Are you good enough to be recruited for lacrosse?

Nope. And maybe I'll add Vandy to my list... I certainly have better stats than the lowest accepted student at my school according to Naviance. If I ED Vandy will that increase my chances?

And I was JV Captain this year and last year, and might be Ultimate Club president.

I will second (or third) that you have a reasonable list of schools and that your scores and GPA are pretty good, they just seem low in comparison to what you see posted here on CC, but they are fine. Your ACT is stronger than your SATs and will be noticed.

You seem to have a good handle on the process. Just be careful not to let the many status symbol school seeking overachievers who dominate these boards freak you out.

Good luck!

K9Leader

Yeah, definitely apply to Vanderbilt.

ED at Vanderbilt absolutely increases your chances. While trying to jump up in the rankings by getting a lot of randoms to apply, they're still always on the look out for Southern preps that like the culture enough to ED.

Well, also, if someone's admitted ED, you know you're going to get them, whereas if someone's admitted RD, it could take 2 to 3 of those admits just to get 1 person to enroll. So ED programs lower acceptance rates, and we all know how much we love low acceptance rates.

I can see you at Vanderbilt, just apply ED and try not send that SAT. 32 ACT with above average average EC is good enough in my mind.

Everyone I know (from my school in Arkansas) that goes to Vandy is either preppy white/southern girl/or asian with merit scholarship.

My D ED'd Vandy with an unweighted 3.3-3.4 two years ago and was accepted. Your EC's are better than hers. Perhaps it helped she is a female in engineering. What do you have to lose by applying. It is a fabulous school.

If I ED Vandy, can I apply EA elsewhere?

Yes, but I assume you know what ED means for you once admitted

Of course, but I wouldn't want to be left out in the cold after early admit season because I decided to risk it and ED a school that has a low acceptance rate.

Also, any other schools besides Vandy to consider?
