Update:
Several decisions have been released in the past week. Here’s where she stands:
Likely:
Truman State - accepted with full tuition
State Flagship - 1/2 tuition plus Honors
Match
Whitman - accepted
Rhodes - accepted
Macalester - waitlisted
Reach
Bowdoin - rejected
Carleton - rejected
Grinnell - waitlisted
Bates - waitlisted
Williams - waitlisted
Amherst - accepted!
She was getting pretty disheartened with all the waitlists, and then tonight…Acceptance from Amherst! This whole process is definitely a crapshoot. Thanks to @compmom for encouraging an Amherst application in the first place, as D didn’t think she had much of a shot at any top schools with a C on her transcript (TBH, I didn’t either). Holistic admissions for the win! Still waiting on a few more schools, but 99% sure she’ll be a Mammoth in the fall.

Congratulations to your D! She has some great acceptances, and you just had me search to confirm that I have learned a new college’s mascot…the Mammoth! I am so very happy for you and your family.
How is your D doing in Taiwan, by the way?
She is having an amazing experience in Taiwan - I highly, highly, recommend NSLI-Y! One of her professors encouraged her to self-study and take the exam to skip a level, so she worked her tail off for several weeks and just found out she passed! So she will have completed the equivalent of 2 years of Chinese in about 6 months. She is on a planned program excursion in the mountains this weekend, so she found out about Amherst when she checked her portal from a train station - she said there were about 100 Taiwanese tourists staring at the crazy American girl jumping up and down with her friends in the parking lot!

mY dd applied for NSLI-Y but was not selected.
Acceptance to NSLI-Y is really tough - did your D apply for summer or academic year? I’ve heard academic year is an easier admit since more students apply for summer. I would encourage her to keep trying if she hasn’t aged out - lots of kids get accepted on the second or even third try!

Summer program and she already had 3 years of Chinese.

Definitely keep trying, especially if she’s willing to go for the academic year. Lots of kids with language experience in my D’s cohort, and immersion has benefitted them tremendously. My D went in with minimal background and now holds conversations with people at the bus stop!

A huge congrats! Amherst was a life changing place for me in every amazing way! Beautiful campus in an area rich with student life. No doubt your D will have an amazing 4 years. Encourage her to attend the admitted students weekend if possible!

Thank you! She will be in Taiwan until the last day of May, so unfortunately no opportunity to visit.

We are fortunate that Amherst has amazing financial aid, making it very affordable for our family. D has committed and removed herself from the WL at other schools, so she will definitely be a Mammoth next year! Thanks so much to everyone for suggestions and encouragement throughout this process - it’s been a tough but thankfully rewarding cycle!
Best of luck to those of you with children still making decisions.

Congrats and thanks for the update!
May ask how much merit your student got at Whitman?
