Colleges for Computer Science

Hello, I am a freshman (now going to be sophomore) in high school, and I am thinking of having a career in Computer Science. I am trying to find colleges that have a good program, but the only college that I really know is NC State, which I know has a good program and is also in-state for me. Could you please help me with either colleges or resources to look for other colleges that have a good program?
Thank you in advance.

There are a lot of universities that have very good CS programs. NC State is one. UNC is another. There are many, many others.

Also there are a lot of jobs in computer science. CS is a field where after your first few weeks on the job people will not care where you went to university, but will care what you can do.

Keep ahead in your classes. Try to get good grades. Take your math classes seriously. Having a strong background in math is useful for a CS major. In math understand the concepts and do not just focus on formulae. Also, have some fun while you are in high school.

UMD-CP is good.

University of Washington at Seattle

University of Texas at Austin

University of Michigan–Ann Arbor

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU)

Univ. of California at Berkeley

Georgia Tech (Atlanta)

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Some time before you make your college application list, talk to your parents about what they will contribute for your college costs. Then use the net price calculator on the web site of each college of interest to see what it is likely to cost after financial aid.

Most students’ college choices are limited primarily by cost constraints.

Since we don’t know your stats (it’s still early) or budget, it would hard to give you a good list specific to you. Most students stay in state due to budget constraints, so since you mentioned NCSU and others mentioned UNC, I would also look into UNC Charlotte’s CS program.

Google “top Computer Science schools” and you’ll find at least 8-10 lists. Don’t get hung up too much on the ratings, but it will give you a long list of possibilities.

I did the same for my D and there are at least 40 schools listed on 3 or more of the lists. That was our starting point for research.
