^I guess I'd be more impressed if it were a public school and then I'd want to know how you managed to get a pro-life club approved by your school board and local superintendent. All of those things would speak highly of your political acumen and willingness to work within the system.

The original post (mine) was about being tolerated. There are places where conservative viewpoints are discriminated against (big time). Schools where the majority of the students are liberals would be fine, but not if opposing viewpoints are met with contempt. Colleges should be places where freedoms of thought and speech reign. But I mean free speech for everyone (not just the people we agree with).

I can tell you that most conservative schools, ie liberty, are very intolerant of other views, so if you think it is some liberal thing, think again

conservative instituations can be the most intolerant of all

UC Berkeley isn't as liberal as most like to believe; it's the top public in CA and as such, attracts top students from all parts of the political spectrum. The city of Berkeley, however...

CItygirlsmom - I agree that ultra religious schools are probably not the most tolerant places (I think their objective is something different than that). If you read through my posts on this thread, you'll see that my definition of "conservative" and yours is probably pretty different.

True conservatives are the most accepting group of people you can find.

A liberal ended slavery.

A Republican President ended slavery.

Yes, a liberal Republican, Senator. What happened to them? They got run out of your party. What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican Party?

I'll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act. What did Conservatives do?

They opposed them on every one of those things, every one. So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, 'Liberal,' as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work, Senator, because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.

-The West Wing

I'm not a liberal though :P

@spideygirl
I'm like you (I think): fiscally conservative, morally liberal. I believe we fall under Libertarians. You'll be fine at any school.

@poster who said Dartmouth was a conservative school
I would say about 5% of the student population actually agree with the Dartmouth Review. I believe like 80-something% supported Kerry in the last election. Huge Demo following.

Yanarchy - what other crazy person is up near 3 a.m. other than me?

Me. I'm doing housework. At 3. It's a bit sad. I find this is the only discussion board that's active all hours of the day.

Oh well.

We are kindred spirits. That is my laundry time as well, more often than I would like.

... moms :D
