I'm considering applying to Cornell, Pratt, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech for interior design. (as a back up - umd college park (in-state) for landscape architecture). Since these schools are fider-accredited and are in the top 15 ranked interior design schools, do you think it makes it harder to get accepted into interior design at these schools? Should I apply to a non-ranked interior school just in case? Does anyone know how strong/weak the program at these schools are personally? As a whole, how would u describe the interior design major? (Instense? Fun? Heavy workload, etc. ?) Also, do you know if there are any interior design scholarships out there for high school seniors? Thanks.

There is an accreditation group for interior design "Foundation for Interior Design Research (FIDER). Surprisingly, schools that you would think are accredited, aren't such as RISD. I know Pratt is but am unsure about Cornell.Make sure you check whether they are FIDER accredited.

FIDER has a website with a section for student questions. If you click on "Accredited programs" you will find the programs for all the states. I was surprised at how many programs there were. How are your stats?

Just checked the FIDER web site and Cornell is accredited. If you are interested in attending an accredited school in NY, the following is the list that was shown on the FIDER web site:

Notice that Parsons College of Design, which has a great design reputation, is NOT accredited.

I'm pretty sure FIT is the top school for interior design in New York
